Residence Permit by Non-Investment – Spain

🛏️ Spain Non-Lucrative Visa (NLV)

This visa is ideal for those of you who want to live in Spain without having to work or invest, suitable for retirement or a relaxed lifestyle.

Main Benefits

  • Visa-free travel to 27 countries in the Schengen Area.
  • Can register up to 3 generations in 1 application (children and parents).
  • No need to invest or work in Spain.

Validity Period & Extension

  • Year 1: Valid for 1 year
  • 2nd year: 2 year extension
  • 4th year: Second extension, 2 years
  • 6th year: Can apply Permanent Resident (valid for 5 years)
  • 10th year: Can apply Citizenship

💶 Fund & Income Requirements

  • Minimum Passive Income:
    • €2,400 per month / €28,800 per year for primary applicants
    • Additional €7,200 per year per dependent
  • Funds must come from passive income: rent, investment, dividends, pension, etc.
  • Proof: Bank statement for the last 6–12 months

📋 Other Requirements

  • There is no minimum age limit
  • Not allowed to work in Spain (if you want to work, you must change to a Work Visa)
  • Stay in Spain for at least 183 days/year
  • Private Health Insurance for all family members, valid for 1 year
  • Insurance from local Spanish companies or official branches
  • Police Record Certificate (SKCK)

📝 How to Register – 2 Steps

Stage 1: Initial Application at the Spanish Embassy (Jakarta)

  • No later than 90 days before departure
  • Interview process
  • If approved, the visa will be affixed to the passport with the NIE (foreign identification number)

From the date you receive your first NLV, you officially become a Legal Resident in Spain, and the countdown to becoming a Permanent Resident starts from that date.

Stage 2: Process in Spain

Description on the card:

  • Residencia Temporal Inicial – Not Allowed to Work
  • Arrive in Spain within 90 days of visa approval
  • Register at the municipality & police station (by appointment)
  • Biometrics to get TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) – valid for 1 year
  • This card is valid for 1 year

💻 Spain Digital Nomad Visa (DNV)

This visa is suitable for freelancer And remote worker who work for clients/companies outside of Spain. You can still legally reside in Spain while working online.


DNV Benefits

  • Live & work in Spain remotely until 5 years
  • FREE VISA to 27 Schengen countries

  • The cost of living is relatively affordable
  • Lower income tax (15% for digital nomads, standard 24%)

  • Fast approval: 15–45 days

📋 Main Requirements

  • Your employer (for remote workers) or client (for freelancers) must be located outside of Spain.
  • Income received by the Company in Spain max 20% of total income.
  • Work for a Company or have a freelance relationship with a client for at least 3 months before applying for the Digital Nomad Visa.
  • Contract with the same company for at least 1 year
  • Minimum annual salary/income €30,240, which is €2,520 per month
  • There are 2 ways to register. 
  • Minimum 3 years work experience.
  • Bachelor's/Master's degrees from leading universities, vocational education, and prestigious business schools.
  • Clean from criminal record for the last 5 years.
  • Have personal health insurance.

From the employer / client side:

  • Remote worker: The company must be at least 1 year old. The employer must certify that the employee can work remotely.
  • Freelancers: must work for at least 1 company/client outside of Spain, with a contract stating that they can work remotely.
